Alcuin of York is most well remembered for his work in education. He was head of school and library at the School of York, then went to work as Charlemagne's education advisor.
Alcuin is remembered especially for his intelligence, his love for learning and his dedication to improving the education of others.
Celebrating him today seems like an ideal time for thinking about how others have taught us - about God, about people and the world, and about ourselves.
I wonder too, what I have taught others - whether meaning to or not! ...after all, there's always greater understanding (and, therefore, learning) from all kinds of relationships.
(Ascension Day is tomorrow, and that marks the start of the 11 day 'Thy Kingdom Come' prayer initiative that lasts between Ascension Day and Pentecost - so prayer will be a particular focus for this blog each day until Pentecost.)
