Today the Church remembers the Apostle Matthias...

After Judas' death, Matthias was chosen to replace him as one of the twelve disciples.

It was an appointment that shows us a lot about faithfulness...

- Judas acted without taking to heart Proverbs 3.5a,7a - 'Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and be not wise in your own sight'

- Jesus had ascended into heaven, so could not select and call a replacement, as he had called the original twelve disciples. The apostles had faith that the Holy Spirit would guide them to make the right decision.

- Matthias had faithfully followed Jesus since Jesus was baptised by John

- There was an abundance of faithfulness - Matthias was not the only option, but there were others that had to be chosen from, to pick Matthias.

- God was in their decision, and ultimately is the source of all faithfulness

Some words to inspire prayer today, from Eucharistic Prayer G:

How wonderful the work of your hands, O Lord.

As a mother tenderly gathers her children,

you embraced a people as your own.

When they turned away and rebelled

your love remained steadfast.

♫ Great is thy faithfulness
