Eggs aplenty were eaten in our house yesterday, as was a roast dinner. Both traditional ways for us (and so many other people!) to celebrate Easter.
I think it's no surprise, nor coincidence, that our main act of worship, the Eucharist, is a meal, ...or that the risen Christ broke bread on the road to Emmaus, and ate fish with his disciples on the beach.
Food is such a common way for us to pause and to celebrate - it engages a number of our senses all at once, and can bring people together to share in something exciting in a way that little else can.
A friend made this wonderful cake to celebrate, too, covered with Easter flowers. Wonderful symbols of the hope, joy and new life that Easter brings.
It's also a reminder of Spring...and that Covid-19 or not, Spring is here and Summer is on its way. This particular cake might not be able to be shared with lots of other people, but it also shows, not just the hope but the assurance, that the time is coming when we will be able to meet again, and share food, and celebrate.
While we wait for that time, I wonder what traditions you have for celebrating? (and what food and other things you enjoy sharing most with others.)
