For God so loved the world

Thinking about how Holy Week and Easter have been so different to usual this year has led to my fairly frequently recurring wondering about which seasons I 'prefer' - Advent and Christmas, or Lent and Easter.

There can't be one without the other, of course... but it doesn't stop the wondering - nor the occasional question of 'which one is most important?'

It can be fun to ponder... and where your emphasis lies - on God coming to live amongst us, or on the things Jesus said and did, or on the cross and Resurrection - can also tell you lots about how you understand faith, and about your relationship with God.

(It's not the proper time for it now really, as in the season of Easter the Angelus is replaced by the Regina Caeli, but...) I think the prayer at the end of the Angelus connects Jesus' birth (Incarnation) with his Resurrection rather neatly:

We beseech Thee, O LORD, pour Thy grace into our hearts; that as we have known the Incarnation of Thy Son, Jesus Christ, by the message of an angel, so by His Cross and Passion we may be brought unto the glory of His Resurrection. Through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

♫ As I've mentioned it, here's the Regina Caeli

Lyrics in English:

Queen of heaven, rejoice, alleluia.
The Son you merited to bear, alleluia,
Has risen as he said, alleluia.
Pray to God for us, alleluia.
