Holy Week - Wednesday - Compline

As well as morning and evening prayer, there is also compline (night prayer).
For many churches that don't often have compline services, Holy Week is a time when it is said or sung in church.

Why not give it a try today?
- there are many recorded and live-streamed options out there, including these Benefice online services, or you can simply find the words for morning, evening and night prayer for each day here, on the Church of England website.

♫ This hymn, before the ending of the day, is traditionally sung at compline:

Before the ending of the day,

Creator of the world we pray,
That with thy wonted favour thou
Wouldst be our guard and keeper now.

From all ill dreams defend our eyes,
From nightly fears and fantasies;
Tread underfoot our ghostly foe,
That no pollution we may know.

O Father, that we ask be done,
Through Jesus Christ, thine only Son;
Who, with the Holy Ghost and thee,
Doth live and reign eternally.
