Three days until the next Saints day, so I thought looking at the three patriarchs, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob might be a plan.
Abraham today.
The 'Abrahamic faiths' are those which have a common root in Abraham, and in the God of Abraham.
The three largest of these are Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.
This seems particularly poignant timing at the moment, with all of the Black Lives Matters protests. Whether religion, skin colour, or anything else that might separate us from others, we all too often, throughout history, have disagreed, fought, discriminated and divided...
There are huge amounts we can learn from each other, if we are open to listen, and learn - not just from the things we share in common, but also from the areas where we disagree.
For reflection and prayer today:
You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against your kinsfolk. Love your neighbour as yourself: I am the LORD.
Torah - Leviticus 19.18
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbour as yourself.
Bible - Luke 10.27
As you would have people do to you, do to them; and what you dislike to be done to you, don't do to them.
Hadith - Kitab al-Kafi vol. 2, p146
♫ Abraham was told that his descendants would be more numerous than the stars of the sky (Genesis 15.5)
On that theme... today's music suggestion: John Legend - Under the stars
